Our Story

Three generations of artisan excellence, weaving tradition into every thread

Established 1985

A Legacy Woven in Time

Maham Carpets was founded in 1985 by Master Weaver Abdul Maham in the historic city of Lahore, Pakistan. What began as a small family workshop has grown into a globally recognized name in handmade carpet excellence.

For nearly four decades, we have remained faithful to the ancient traditions of carpet making while embracing modern design sensibilities. Our journey started with a single loom and a passionate commitment to preserving the timeless art of hand-knotting.

Today, we proudly work with over 200 master artisans across Afghanistan, Turkey, and Pakistan, each bringing generations of inherited knowledge to every piece they create. Our carpets have graced homes, palaces, and institutions in over 45 countries worldwide.

The Art of Craftsmanship

Each Maham carpet is a masterpiece that can take 6-18 months to complete. From the first knot to the final inspection, every step honors centuries-old traditions.

1. Wool Selection

We source the finest hand-spun wool from highland sheep in Kashmir and New Zealand. Natural fibers are carefully selected for their luster, durability, and ability to hold natural dyes.

2. Natural Dyeing

Using time-honored recipes passed down through generations, we dye wool with natural ingredients: indigo for blues, madder root for reds, pomegranate for yellows, and walnut husks for browns.

3. Hand-Knotting

Master weavers meticulously tie each knot by hand using the Persian (asymmetric) or Turkish (symmetric) knotting technique. A single 9x12 ft carpet contains over 1 million individual knots.

4. Washing & Finishing

After weaving, carpets are carefully washed in mountain spring water to soften the wool and enhance color vibrancy. Edges are overcast and fringes secured using traditional hand-stitching methods.

5. Quality Inspection

Every carpet undergoes rigorous inspection by our master craftsmen. We examine knot density (KPSI), pattern accuracy, color consistency, and structural integrity before certification.

6. Certification

Each piece receives a Certificate of Authenticity documenting its origin, materials, knot count, and the master weaver's signature—ensuring your investment is genuine and traceable.
